CONVERSION & ROOF EXTENSION TO WAREHOUSE, BERMONDSEY
Comprehensive overview of space utilisation, cost and suitability for an existing office housed within a converted warehouse.
We collaborated with a specialist consultant who provided a financial assessment that evaluated the cost-benefit ratio of converting or repurposing the third and fourth floors including options that established potential benefits to add additional floors.
We analysed the conversion of the existing spaces into apartments, along with the addition of new floors, presenting the opportunity to provide homes while maintaining architectural integrity and unique identity of the existing building typology. An initial understanding of the potential for a mixed-use development that respects the area's architectural character was documented to assist our clients presentation to important stakeholders. By thoughtfully integrating modern residential units within the historic commercial development we maximised value, all while preserving the building’s historical and aesthetic significance.
NEW BUILD FAMILY HOME - KENT - PRE-APPLICATION TO CONSTRUCTION - IN PROCESS
Working closely with our client, we are thrilled to embark on this innovative project to design a home outside traditional architectural boundaries. We are presently working at pre-application closely with stakeholders including the local authority and local community. At the pre-application phase of this project, our focus will be on thorough consulting and material research to ensure that our design aligns with both the client’s vision and regulatory requirements. This foundational work is critical for developing a sustainable and innovative home.
This brief presents an opportunity to redefine the concept of home by pushing the boundaries of traditional architecture. Together with our client, we are committed to creating a transformative living space that embodies innovation, sustainability, and a profound connection to the natural world. This project promises to be a celebration of creativity and a bold step into the future of residential design.
The site is situated close to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and nature reserve. The site itself presents several challenges such as uneven terrain, limited access, and environmental sensitivities. Addressing these obstacles demands a thoughtful approach to both design and construction and is an opportunity to develop the traditional housing typology.
PRIVATE HOUSE GROUND FLOOR REFURBISHMENT/REMODELLING - TENDER & CONSTRUCTION
An unobtrusive addition to an existing 20th century terraced house. We were invited to take the construction and tender package forward. Working closely with our client and ensuring that the interior is designed for longevity, as a subtle intervention to the existing. The design incorporates consideration for future adaptions that may be necessary for changes in mobility.
The location is characterised by its historical 20th-century terraced housing, reflecting a rich architectural heritage. The homes along this street are part of a uniform row which features distinct brick facades with decorative bay windows and tiled roofs, contributing to a cohesive streetscape. The extension and the interior are balanced to reflect this amendment.
ACOUSTIC REFURBISHMENT. CENTRAL LONDON
We assisted the church with further amendments to improve its acoustic performance for the congregation and community. Acting as consultants we established the various uses to understand the activities within the space and the acoustic discomfort experienced in the nave. This consultation and survey provided a brief from which the Acoustic specialists could work to.

We worked closely with our client and in alignment with the borough's brief to create a sustainable family home, integrating our commitment to future-proofing. Adaptive for future generations and dynamic family changing size. Our focus was on designing a family home that met the borough's sustainability goals while ensuring long-term resilience. This approach included the use of renewable energy, energy-efficient materials, and climate-adaptive design, to ensure that this home not only serves current needs but remains viable and environmentally responsible for future generations. By integrating these elements, sustainable houses offer an eco-conscious living space that promotes long-term resilience, lower operating costs, and reduced environmental impact. We specifically worked with water and it’s conservation. This served as a template for a house that could be constructed in different boroughs of London responding to each context.
Situated in a fashionable borough of east London, this home sits amongst a series of courtyards. The design features a meticulous articulation of circulation spaces, treating them as habitable areas with sculptural qualities and thoughtful adjustments in height. The layout carefully arranges a fluid progression of rooms orientated towards unique garden landscapes which defines the architecture. The house is fully wrapped in timber and plant based facades, a new form of housing typology. The warmth and texture of the hand-crafted cleft timber provides a foil for the architecture of nature. Balancing artisanal craftsmanship, contemporaneous spaces, and remaining ecologically focused.
GARDEN LANDSCAPE - RE-PURPOSED FURNITURE AND GARDEN LANDSCAPE
A stark hard standing amongst the ubiquitous concrete jungle has been remodelled as a ‘jungle meadow’, each eclectic plant an inhabitant forming communal space through which neighbourly and plant based relations are nurtured, and the appreciation for the beauty of plants is always present. A bench in Stoke Newington is repurposed, repaired and painted. Containers chosen for their transportability, soft acoustic muffled material, shape, size, and surface influence the overall character of the intervention.

The containers allow for height to express a contemporaneous meadow and plant collection to be seen both street side and garden side. Felt containers provide a weightless boundary to the volumes of soil required to create the landscape which is dismountable and may be relocated.

Working with our clients desire to use less and create value where there is none, we refurbished and positioned various, locally discarded timber seating. A relationship between plant and furniture was established through the obvious but somewhat breath-taking use of colour. Expert paint artisans mixed finished to our exacting specification in collaboration with the delphinium, the lupin and the foxglove. Furniture becomes a delicate intervention that is very small, very subtle, and very beautiful.
